Quick walktrough Software Licensing
A short, manual example on how to use Software Licensing in Asset Management.
First, create a normal software item in SCSM:
Next, create a corresponding Software Asset object in SCSM:
Note: the license count type has been set to
By Installation
. Please refer to the User Guide for further information about the license count type
Next, create a License object in SCSM for the previously created Software Asset and add the Software Asset to the License object on the SCSM Form:
Go back and open the Software Asset once more and switch to the Mapping tab. On the Mapping tab, add the Software Item created at the beginning in the panel labelled with This Software Asset is manually mapped to the following Software items
:
At this point the licensing for your new Software Asset is ready.
To test the licensing, go to the View Configuration Items/Computers/All Windows Computers and open any Computer.
On the Computer form, go to the Software tab and add the Software Item created at the beginning as Installed software
:
Now you would have to wait until 6am for the "Software Asset Installation Workflow" and "Software Asset Licensing Workflow" to run automatically.
Luckily, you can start these workflows manually as described in the Installation Guide.
Copy the itnetX.AssetManagement.Workflows.dll
and the workflowTestApp.2016.exe
from the installation package to a new folder on your Management Server, then open a Command-Window in this Folder and run the "Software Asset Installation Workflow"
When finished you should find your Computer in the Software Asset's Mapping tab:
Now run the "Software Asset Licensing Workflow"
When finished you can finally see the licensing status on the Software Asset Form:
